New Apprenticeship Opportunity at Coldblow

Coldblow Equestrian Centre logoColdblow Equestrian Centre, situated between Maidstone & Sittingbourne, is inspected and approved by both the British Horse Society and the Association of British Riding Schools.

The ABRS has recently become an approved Training Provider and can deliver (oversee) a new Level 2 Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership and UKCC (UK Coaching Certificate) Level 2.  The ABRS has been approved by Active IQ – the awarding body for this new apprenticeship scheme – please check out their website for further info:

The ABRS will have to ensure that the apprenticeships meet the rigorous demands of the Skills Funding Agency and OFSTED.  There is a pilot scheme for 50 apprenticeships in this new qualification and Coldblow EC has applied to run these courses as an alternative to BHS training.

The specific qualifications are ABRS Tests 1-6 in Riding & Horse Care plus the Lunge Unit together with the UKCC Level 2 in equine coaching.  Equestrian Sport in funding terms is an activity and the skills learnt in Activity Leadership added to the UKCC & ABRS requirements means you will be a student appropriately trained for the equestrian industry.  The added benefit is that the skills learnt on the course are transferable so if you decide later in life you wanted to become a gym or outdoor recreation instructor you would already be part qualified.

Students will be paid the Apprenticeship Wage: £2.65 per hour for a 30 or 40 hour week.  Coldblow is waiting to hear other details of the course such as whether students will have to pay for exam fees.

Coldblow has been offering 16+ student training towards BHS qualifications under the college outreach scheme operated by Haddon Training.  No tuition fees are payable and if successful exam fees can be reclaimed.

But, don’t delay, places on either the student training or apprenticeship scheme are limited to a total of six.  Courses will commence in early September.  Tel: 01622 730439 or e.mail:
