On Saturday 1st November Australian Olympic and WEG Team Member Chris Burton held his first Show Jumping and Cross Country clinic at Littleton Manor Equestrian offering private and group lessons. Chris’ Show Jumping focused on going back to basics to show how important it is to get the basics correct as this is fundamentally how to progress in any equine discipline. By the end of one session a rider who normally compete at BE90 and hopes to move up to BE100 next season was happy flying over 1.20m!
Riders then moved on to the cross country which in November is normally unheard of but LMEQ is open all year round due to their great sandy ground. This is where Chris really excels as a coach. He understands what the horses are thinking when on the course and how to work to the horse and rider’s strengths and has the tips to make sure the weakness will become strengths. Chris helped a few of the riders out by giving them a demonstration of what to do in certain situations. This helped install confidence in both the horses and the riders. Some even conquered their fears and jumped jumps on the course that they have always been scared of!
Overall the day was a great success for all, riders were even lucky enough to get sunshine in November!
Chris said LMEQ is a “great training course with a huge variety of well-built fences. The fantastic sandy soil means it is all year round schooling.”
