The weather smiled on us this year and BHS stand at the Royal International Horse show was steadily busy throughout the 5 days of the event. We welcomed over 60 new members to the BHS as well as answering questions about welfare issues, problems with bridleways and safety concerns. Lots of existing members popped by to say hello and it is always nice to put faces to names!!!
The two BHS Kent Committees installed their mobile gazebo at the Kent County Show and 19 volunteers helped man the stand over the three day event, including some representatives from TROT. Both BHS members and non-members visited the tent which held an array of information on the BHS as well as some local initiatives and competitions taking place. The hard-working volunteers gave a friendly face to the BHS in Kent and helped spread the word of the work that BHS does, both at a local and national level.
The next BHS Regional Training Day (CPD Day), which will count as a refresher for the Register of Instructors, will run on 30th September at Mount Mascal Stables, Bexley. Donald Kear, BHSI and Helen Barton-Smith, BHSI will presenting a day looking at the topic of teaching children. Everyone is welcome to attend and booking forms are available by emailing email@example.com
Your local BHS committees have been working hard to put on some training events, clinics and competitions for the autumn, so if you are feeling fired up to crack on with your riding before the winter weather arrives, then please come along and support their efforts.
In addition to organising events, the committees will be holding their Annual Meetings in October this year and I would urge you to go along to your nearest meeting and support the event – without the hard work of these dedicated BHS volunteers welfare cases would go unnoticed, bridlepaths would disappear, road safety issues would not be addressed and local training events would suffer (to name but a few things!!!). As well as enjoying some type of insightful lecture/demo, these meetings are a chance for the work of the committee to be discussed, new committee members to be voted on (if applicable) and for everyone to have an opportunity to raise questions, share ideas and chat with your local committee volunteers.
For more details of events running do have a look at the re-vamped BHS Website which now has dedicated pages for our Region – www.bhs.org.uk/southeast. Also, the BHS London & South East Facebook phenomenon continues to grow and we now have over 850 fans who keep up to date with the London & South East Regional news & events – look up “BHS London & South East” in the Facebook search bar.
