BHS News in the South East – March 2014

BHS_logoWith the thought that spring really is not too far away and the fact that the evenings are already getting lighter many horse owners and riders will be looking forward to some decent weather to get out and about and enjoy riding. Your local BHS Committees have organised lots of events for 2013, from Horse MOT Days & Gadget-busting demos to improving your flatwork, Gridwork clinics and XC sessions! So, whatever your interest, there is bound to be a BHS event to suit you – and you don’t have to be a BHS Member to attend! For more details of events running do have a look at the re-vamped BHS Website which now has dedicated pages for our Region – www.bhs.org.uk/southeast

The Region will be running the first Continuous Professional Development Day at Hadlow College, Kent on the 25th Match where International Dressage rider Daniel Watson, BHSI will be presenting the topic of Lunging and Lateral Work. Although the day will count as an update for the Register of Instructors, everyone is welcome to attend and booking forms are available on the BHS website www.bhs.org.uk or by emailing claire.mc@bhs.org.uk

The West Sussex Committee held their Annual Show on the 25th & 26th of January at Sands Farm in Warnham. Despite the awful weather conditions there were 56 Dressage entries on the Saturday, riding Prelim and Novice tests and 108 Show-jumping entries on the Sunday where heights ranged from 60 to 95cm. The organisers were complemented by competitors for holding such well-run and friendly show and profits made will go toward supporting local riders by way of BHS West Sussex Committee initiatives.

BHS-MarchOn the 4th February the Surrey Committee organised an incredibly interesting tour of the Household Cavalry where a limited number of BHS Members were given an insight into all areas of the unit. The sun was shining and participants were treated to a complete tour of the forge, saddlery, ceremonial dress store and stables as well as watching the mounted inspections before the changing of the guard. The morning was a fascinating, whistle-stop tour into the life of a Household Cavalry soldier and horse and special thanks must go to all the officers and soldiers who made the tour so entertaining.

All forthcoming new, events and training courses will be also be listed on the BHS London & South East Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/The-British-Horse-Society-London-South-East/120774314601759
